Under The Bleachers

It's four in the morning. I can't sleep, so I took the tv out of the closet where I hid it only hours before so it would be out of sight out of mind while I was writing.  I pulled it out and I am now watching The Graduate for the first time.  I grew up on the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel and am now asking myself why was it has taken so long to see a movie I would have always loved?

Writing is going well. I have been continuing to collaborate with an old friend named Max Collins.  Max was from a band called Eve 6 who are known for some hits including one of my favorites "Here's to the Night".  In high school I actually hated them out of jealousy.  I would hear their song Inside Out on the radio while my band Stage was trying to make it. Out of juvenial competition,  I would just convince myself they sucked because they were similar in our young age  but way ahead of us in commercial success. Stage went on to open for Eve 6 on tour and learned how great they really were.  Max and I bonded on our love of Evan Dando and the Lemonheads and kept in touch.  It has been one of the most incredible musical experiences writing together. In a way he is a muse for me because I feel at my best often when we are sitting in the same room.

For all those in LA.
Thursday night I will be at the knitting factory to support and even more, enjoy my friends Max and Tony play in there new band called The Sugi Tap.

Knitting factory thursday night (dec 7). Is that pearl harbor?
9 pm

I will be there enjoying a night out on the town so come say hi and meet another great band.

Hope to see you there.

If you go to their page tell them ryan sent you. (Special treatment).

Anyhow. I will now press play and try to get some sleep but not before I hear those famous lines.

Mrs. Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?

Esquire house 360

It was good to be home for a few days.  I returned from Bali to get home in time for a nice family dinner and then a show at the crazy donkey.  I was so jet lagged that I slept right through the dinner.  I woke up in a panic when the phone kept ringing and I missed the whole day.  I am actually still adjusting. I am on vampire hours these days.  The taste of blood is the only thing missing at this point.
Thanks to all who came out for the Thanksgiving Day show.  It was the last one of the year and it was so awesome to see everyone.  Also thanks to everyone who stayed late. We partied in the venue and I played a few acoustic songs.  Even some songs from the Stage days. Good times.
So, now I have arrived in LA to do some writing and have some meetings for the new album.  Yesterday I did about twenty interviews with different radio stations because vh1 has their awards show tonight and a lot of them are in town.  You might hear something on your local station. I also did some stuff for vh1. I was in the room with weird al, ice t, and the fray. Crazy cast of people.  Last night I hit this Save The Music Party at the esquire house 360 in Beverly Hills. Check it out online. It was insane.  Each room was decorated to the max by a sponsor.  Got to meet Jon Mayer, Matt Kearny, and the boys from Lifehouse. It was a fun night and we all just took in the beauty of the view and chilled.  You might spot some red carpet photos of me around.  I even smiled a little.

So. Day one done. Now I will take the party hat off and be in record mode. I can't wait to fill you in.
Talk soon,
While I am recording I need you all to be spreading the word.
Thanks for reading.

Ryan

Ps. I am so happy I did that tour. I will never forget the people I met. You are all so special to me.

Rocking Malaysia

Writing to you from the airport in Singapore. I played in KL Malaysia last night. To all those who helped make it a memorable sold out televised event thank you. My favorite part was in the encore when I was stomping my foot on the stage with the goal of putting my foot through it during "Head Like a Hole.". My foot smashed one of the lights built into the stage and like a pyrotechnics show the light exploded. It shorted out my guitar so I had the honor of throwing my guitar on the floor and just finished singing in the arms of the front few rows.
The venue was amazing. I walked in and saw posters everywhere. The walls were even painted "Ryan Star."
I had a blast with everyone and can't believe I am half way around the worled feeling so embraced. Radio stations here are playing my new song 11:59 that I recorded live at the station in heavy rotation.
When I got off the plane I turned on the radio and heard "ryan star has just landed in Malaysia.". The hotel greeted me with fans and cameras everywhere.

I can't wait to get some footage and pics up for you. I'll let you know how the show goes tonight.

Talk soon,

Ryan
